First projects!

So Ive really gotten going on my crochet lately. I have many patterns backed up that I want to try, and right now Im working on my first sweater. I never thought I would be able to do that! But since the holidays are coming up, and especially Halloween, I was curious whether there were some cool Halloween themed crochet patterns out there. I was surprised to find crochet patterns for Halloween decorations. Here is the first crochet pumpkin I have made. The pattern was an amigurumi pattern which I adapted to make a Jack-o-Lantern pattern. The face pattern was sewn onto the front of the pumpkin, and I have plans to make several different faces. Theres still rooom for improvement but Im pretty proud of my first attempt :) Ill add a link to the original amigurumi pattern here. Im attempting to make a larger pumpkin and doubling what the pattern calls for to do so, Ill post whether it works out or not :) but I think these pumpkins are great for gifts. I plan to work out a way to make a pumpkin to put treats in for gifts. There has to be a way to make a neat Pumpkin crochet bowl to put candy in with the pumpkin top as a lid. Im determined to figure that one out too!

My sister is going to be having a baby in February, and so Ive started crocheting baby clothes for the first time. Baby booties are extremely hard to crochet, Ive found, if you can find me an easy pattern and explain it to me then I will try again. For now Ive just given up! But Ive made great progress in crochet, making a baby hat and coat. The sleeves in the pattern just werent working out for me however, and I decided to leave them off. The jacket is adorable even without the sleeves. I made some changes in the pattern, just in adding the trim to the bottom of the coat. The coat isnt exactly finished either, I need to add the collar and I might trim the sleeves. Here is a picture.

I LOVE how the hat turned out. I plan to make many more of these. Once we know whether the baby is a boy or girl, I can start using different colors. My sister specified a neutral green for now and I plan to use white. My sister also said she wants to use sea turtles as a theme, and Im looking into sea turtle crochet patterns for baby toys and appliques for clothing. They are hard to find though! Sadly I copied this pattern directly from a website and at the time, didnt plan to make a blog about my work so I cant find the pattern. When I find it or if someone knows what it is, please post a link.

Lastly, Ive been working on granny square blanket patterns and I finished my first clumsy project with some scrap yarn Ive had lying around. I learned to make the granny square blanket by some videos on allfreecrochet.com under the tutorials section. I adapted the blanket to a very short lapghan and its in a Christmasy combination of colors. Since finishing that project however, Im making a baby granny square blanket now with a D hook and soft yarn and also a much larger blanket with worsted weight yarn. Watching those videos actually opened up a whole new understanding of crochet for me, and made me more interested in new and interesting patterns. Although Im still not using any fancy scissors. (If you watch the video... youll know what Im talking about lol). Ill post the first video here. Im sorry its not in the tutorials, its actually under Basics and then Crochet A Throw. This would be a great first project if you are starting out crocheting he has videos all the way through the process and its helpful to be able to pause and watch his stitching again and again to get it right. I found it very useful. The website I posted above is also very useful to find good patterns and many are links to other websites where you might find more patterns. Here is a picture of my first granny square afghan.

Im getting into amigurumi (crochet animals) more so I may start posting more projects and also adding patterns that I found fun or interesting to my links.

My first post!

Ive decided to start my very own craft blog. Ill post my crochet projects and knitting projects here, but Id also like to post anything else Im working on, my art or writing, and cosplay and any clothes making I might be doing. I like to work with my hands and I like to do just about anything I can. I dont like buying something that I know I can make, and if I say I can make it, then I can :)

I may be posting project patterns that I have found and used so I will add the link to the page where I originally got the project. Im not likely to make any patterns myself in that area.

As for myself, I have many interests and am a child at heart. I love movies, anime, art, music, I love to read mostly fantasy or sci-fi fantasy, although by my husbands influence Ive picked up a history novel now and again. Ive always loved crochet since I was little, but could never understand the patterns, and now Ive devoted time to learning them Im having lots of fun with it. Besides, my sister is going to have a baby and I have lots of opportunity to learn how to make baby things! Especially as the baby is coming in the wintertime and will need warm things.

As for my art, Ive been drawing since I was very young. My mom always tells me how when other kids scribbled, I always colored neatly in the lines. No one ever drove me to draw, infact it was often discouraged of me through my life. But I kept doing it, I was rather driven to keep doing it no matter what. I taught myself to draw as a little girl by tracing out of Garfield comics and Kathy, until I could draw Garfield from memory. It went on from there to drawing freehand but its a difficult process, and advancement was slow. But I kept drawing because I loved it. When I was in high school my art was at a level at which I actually liked it and thought it was pretty good, and still enjoyed drawing constantly. I was into comic books then and could make original pieces based on my favorite characters. Ive always liked characters and always design them, with clothes Ive designed and creatures. Backgrounds are my nemesis. I like to paint and to draw in ink, and every other medium there is. Im more a fan of acrylic painting than of watercolor. I love sculpting and 3-dimensional art. I took many courses in college to further advance myself. Im not a professional artist even now, but its something I love and will always do. Ill be sharing some of my pieces on this blog as time goes on. Until then, I hope you enjoy my blog and my crafts!
